Do I Need a Website If I Have a Facebook Page?

For most small businesses, yes. A Facebook page is a good place to talk with the customers you already have. A website is where new customers find you and decide to call. They do different jobs, and one does not replace the other.

About one small business in six still has no website, and many of those rely on a social page instead (Clutch, 2025). Here is what that costs them.

What a Facebook page does well

  • Keeps existing customers up to date with posts, photos and events.
  • Collects reviews and messages from people who already follow you.
  • Costs nothing to start.

What it cannot do

  • You don't own it. Facebook sets the rules, decides who sees your posts, and can restrict or remove a page. Your website and domain are yours.
  • It is weak in Google search. When someone searches for your service in your town, Google mostly shows business profiles and websites, and a Facebook page rarely appears for near-me searches.
  • AI assistants lean on websites. When people ask ChatGPT or Google's AI for a local recommendation, the business's own website is one of the most cited sources.
  • Not everyone has Facebook, and many people won't log in to look at a business.
  • It looks less established. Buyers check whether a business looks real before they call, and a site with your services, prices and work answers that.

When a Facebook page alone can be enough

If your work comes almost entirely from referrals and a small local following, a well-kept Facebook page and Google Business Profile may carry you for a while. Once you want strangers to find you, a website pays for itself.
